Isaiah 1:18 says, “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

The Life Application Bible gives the commentary that, “Scarlet, or crimson, was the color of a deep-set permanent dye, and its deep stain was virtually impossible to remove from clothing. ” (page 1170).

I was struck with the thought that stains which seem permanent representing the sins of our lives, can be made white as snow and wool in God’s power. Right now, I have a pair of shorts which have a stain that no matter how many times I wash them or how much stain remover I use, isn’t taking out that stain.

I’m so grateful that no sinful stain on our souls is exempt from God’s forgiveness and cleansing regardless of how permanent the sin seems to be. He is always eager to take it out completely. Jesus’ own red blood made it possible. That’s one powerful stain remover!
