Happy New Year! All of us will face uncertainties in this next year but for Christians, we have a God who knows exactly what will happen.
I’m glad to be able to feature Tracy (T.E.) Bradford who knows the surprise and shock of facing an unknown future after she was diagnosed with cancer. I’m featuring her book, Surviving Cancer, which tells her story. She is offering Surviving Cancer in a drawing. Read below about the details.
Here’s a little taste of her story from her book.
I Have Cancer
By T.E. Bradford
My name is Tracy. I have cancer.
Cancer can be a very hopeless thing. I see story after story of people who have lost family, love, body parts, security, dexterity, energy, humanity… themselves. Cancer has taken all this from them. I am one of the lucky ones. I have hope. I have that because I know that even if I lose this battle, I can still cling to God’s promises. He already conquered death. How anyone could face something like this without faith is beyond me.
Being a Mom was the hardest part, not knowing what this was going to do to my son. In private, I cried because I had always planned to be there as he grew up. I wanted to teach him about God and having faith. Who was going to teach him that if I wasn’t around to do it?
Then one of the folks at a cancer support group said something that literally changed my perspective one hundred and eighty degrees. She said she was a mom of two young children also, and while this experience was maybe making them grow up a little quicker than she would have liked, they actually enjoyed having “mom duty” and getting to take care of her. She was using this, she told me, as an opportunity to show them what it meant to take care of family.
And just like that, it clicked.
This was my opportunity to show my son first-hand what it meant to rely on God. I could show him rather than tell him what faith was. Why I had hope. This was my chance to be a living example for my child. There’s a song by Babbie Mason and Rodney Griffin that says, “Turn every test into a testimony” and that is exactly what I decided to do.
Thank you, Tracy, for your beautiful story. I know your book will encourage our hearts, whether we buy it or receive it from the book drawing.
