Company coming and the house is a mess?
Here are six ideas for solving a messy house problem.
-
Lock doors of rooms that are messy. Of course, don’t lock the bathroom door.
-
Have duct tape and masking tape available. Use them to make any last minute repairs of anything.
-
Can’t get dishes, pots and pans washed and put away? Put them in the oven, clothes dryer, washing machine or freezer.
-
Only dust around items. Don’t lift anything.
-
Only vacuum where people walk. That’s where the dirt is.
-
Don’t clean showers. No one goes in there. Put a plastic plant in the shower to hide any dirt.
Finally, and here’s the most important key: don’t clean anything because…
your house is not a reflection of your worth and value.
Your guests are visiting you … not your house.
OMGoodness! When did you install a camera in my house Ms. Kathy!? 🙂 I have to admit though, I’m so OCD, I do a “light” cleaning before our housekeeper arrives every couple of weeks. I think to myself “Oh Lord, please don’t let Ms. Maria see how dirty the house really is.” She’s become accustomed to only vacuuming my office/den because she can never see the desktop to dust it, but I pray she never knows I clean all the bathrooms before she arrives. I know people don’t come over to see our home. It’s a home after all, and not a showplace. Still, we always like to put our best foot forward as they say. Your post reminds me that sometimes we attempt to hide our true, dirty, selves from others too. I wonder if God sees that and shakes his head just like I’m certain my friend Ms. Maria does? God’s blessings and Merry CHRISTmas ma’am.
I love confession time, Mr. J.D. I remember when I first started having a housecleaner come every two weeks and I would start to clean. Then I figured, “Hey, I’m paying her.” I did less than I would have and it actually helped me overcome some of my perfectionistic tendencies. I learned to live with more disarray. Now when the housecleaner comes, I straighten so that she doesn’t take longer and charge me more. LOL My husband still says I do too much and she knows she shouldn’t go into the office (my desk is like yours), but I’m glad I have grown. I can tell you have also–in spite of your OCD. Thanks for inspiring us all!
